Membership of AWE is FREE and open to everyone who plays a role in emergencies, including emergency service organisations, community and not for profit organisations, governments and agencies, universities and schools, private businesses and organisations, as well as volunteers and community members.

AWE promotes, supports and recognises all women, and women in all their intersectional identities across the emergency management and disaster resilience sector. We welcome allies of women, and membership of and participation in AWE is open to everybody.

AWE recognises the lived experiences of women (inclusive of an individual’s sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics). Although binary gender language is used in AWE, we recognise that some people’s experiences and identities cannot be captured by binary gender language.

We recognise a limitless range of gender identities and expressions, and embrace those of us who live beyond, against, and outside of the binary. What we mean by ‘women’ or ‘men’ is neither fixed nor determined.
