Gender equality in Victoria’s police and emergency services with Gender Equality Commissioner Dr Nikki Vincent

Victoria is leading the nation with its Gender Equality Act 2020 and the role of Victorian Commissioner for Gender Equality in the Public Sector. The Commission’s 2022 workplace gender audit Baseline report provides an overview of the state and nature of gender inequality in Victoria’s public agencies, and reports on measures from equal pay to sexual harassment, women in leadership, flexible work and leave, and more. Of the police and emergency services sector, the baseline report found:

  • Overall low representations of women in the workforce
  • Low proportion of women in CEO roles
  • Very low proportion of women as governing body Chairs
  • Significant pay gaps at senior levels
  • Very high rates of workplace discrimination
  • High rates of sexual harassment
